Kpon Invisible wireless charger and conventional wireless chargers are both using a magnetic field to transfer power. The conventional wireless charger uses magnetic induction technology while the invisible under-table wireless charger uses magnetic resonance. The main difference lies in the design of the magnetic tank and the switching frequency. In magnetic induction technology, the switching frequency is significantly higher than the characteristic frequency of the wireless charger’s magnetic tank. In that case, the residual impedance of the tank will limit the magnitude of the magnetic field. While in magnetic resonance, the switching frequency and the magnetic tank frequency are designed to be the same, so that this is no residual impedance and the wireless power path can be used at its maximum capacity. (There is another tank frequency related to power transfer which is the receiver’s magnetic tank. However, it is already determined by smartphone manufacturers. )

What is an Invisible Charger
Kpon Invisible charger is a wireless charging device that is mounted under your table, by putting any qi compatible device on the charging spot on the non-metallic surface, it will start charging. How Does Invisible Charger Work?
The early transmission of such wireless power refers to the idea of transmission of high-power (at least kw level) power over long distances (measured in km). Nicolas Tesla was the first to think of the possibility of it with resonance wireless technology.
Both invisible chargers and wireless chargers use a magnetic field to transfer energy. When a high-frequency current passes the primary winding, the spatial magnetic field is generated around the winding, which is mostly bound by the magnetic material and passes through the secondary winding. The secondary winding induces an alternating current due to the existence of an alternating magnetic field. However, the transfer distance is vastly different between the two charging technologies, while the conventional ones (inductive) are around 7mm, the invisible(resonance) charger can charge qi devices up to 30mm away.

Invisible charging technology or magnetic resonance wireless charging technology provides better spatial freedom. The conventional magnetic induction wireless charges with a limited charging distance look more like “contacted charging”. Limited charging distance put restraints on the applications where this technology can be used.
What Is The Power Sticker?
As iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series came out with pre-installed MagSafe add-ups, the MagSafe technology puts a new challenge to invisible wireless charging. The magnets inside iPhone will generate heat when placed in a magnetic field (A spatial magnetic field is necessary for wireless charging). For a conventional wireless charger, the maximum charging distance is around 7mm. Within this range, the magnetic field is confined by the wireless receiver and remains inside the diameter of the MagSafe circle. For charging distances above 7mm, more and more portion of the magnetic field goes beyond the MagSafe circle and encounters the magnets. To shied the magnets from the spatial magnetic field, a functional sticker that contains high permeability magnetic sheet is placed between the phone and the wireless charger. The functional sticker also contains a patent-designed coil that concentrates the spatial magnetic field to the charging spot which is inside the MagSafe circle. In general, with a charging distance of less than 20mm, the sticker is not a must. However, for a charging distance of more than 20mm, the sticker is necessary to keep the phone charged at a standard charging speed.
